Have you ever wanted to download iTunes MP3s to your iPod? Maybe you’re a high school or college student attending multiple classes and you downloaded the MP3 audio of the lecture from the school’s website. Or maybe, you were fortunate enough to have a great instructor who has provided you with an MP3 CD containing a lecture you missed.

Mom has called and wants you home this weekend to celebrate Grandma’s 80th birthday knowing full well you have a midterm on Monday. A real dilemma. You need to keep Mom and Grandma happy, but you also need to study for Monday’s mid term. I can’t help with Mom and Grandma, but putting MP3′s of class lectures into your iPod so you can listen to them while you’re driving back and forth to school is a snap! I”ll tell you why. As an MP3 user, you already play audio files from your favorite musicians with Apple iTunes on your computer. These same files can be copied or downloaded from your PC to your iPod.

I’ll tell you how. The beauty of iTunes is that it keeps a database of the songs, lectures, or any other digital recordings you have downloaded from the internet or uploaded from CD’s. This digital “database” is called your library. Sounds complicated right? Well, it’s not. Here’s a little known fact about iTunes. The iTunes database is basically just an electronic pointer to where you have stored your MP3 audio flies. If you mistakenly add the same digital recordings more than once, the programming logic just updates the pointer.

If you have MP3 audio files on a CD or DVD, copy them first to your hard drive. This is especially smart if you use a laptop. Ever have a time where you wanted to listen to a favorite CD on the road or at Starbucks. Then you realized you left the CD at home and had not yet ripped them to your hard drive. Unfortunately, I have made that same mistake too many times to ever want to own up to it. Here is a very important reminder important when ripping music to your hard drive. Make sure you establish a logical filing system for your MP3′s so you can tell iTunes where to retrieve the data at a later date.

From the main menu under file, select add file to library to add one, or maybe a few MP3′s or select add folder to library to add all the MP3 files in a folder (or directory for Windows users). Shazaammm….your new files are added to your library. Finally, synchronize our iPod and listen to your new additions.

By: Michael Ottman

About the Author:

Are you a podcaster? Do you love the excitement of recording your own voice, then broadcasting to the world via the Internet? Do you download podcasts from the Internet and later listen to them either on your personal recording device or computer? If so, what you are about to read is important information to you.

When a person downloads a podcast from the Internet, they use what is called a ‘podcast client.’ A podcast client is simply a piece of software used to download a podcast. You may have heard the term
‘media aggregators’ in the past? Well, they are one in the same. Media aggregators are designed to grab hold of a podcast via its online form or feed and then download the recording.

A quick look at Wikipedia will deliver a list of aggregators to include:

o Adobe Media Player

o Akregator

o Amarok

o Canola

o Flock

o iTunes

o Juice

o Mediafly SyncClient

o MediaMonkey

o Miro

o Rhythmbox (GNOME)

o Songbird

o Winamp

o Zune

Do the same for Client Software and the list will be five times longer. The best thing about these programs are that they are mostly free. However, like anything, they all have different bells and
whistles. So, research several to locate one that meets your needs.

You may have heard of RSS feeds? Well, the aggregators and client software programs download RSS feeds the user instructs them to monitor. The file then instructs the server holding the RSS feeds containing podcasts to download them.

Much like the trusted RSS feeds a person may download from their favorite blogs or websites, podcast client software enables a person to read over the information pertaining to any topic they may be
interested in without even launching a web browser.

By: David Hale

About the Author:

A Look Back at the First Time that Download iTunes 2 was Released

When it comes to digital music software, probably nothing will beat the software first released by Apple which is called iTunes for iPod. However, in the early part of November in 2001, the company announced that a newer, better version of the digital music software will be available.

Naturally, if you have an already award-winning previous version, the newer version should be better. Fortunately, the reviews and the user feedback when iTunes 2 was released were positive. Although there were some glitches in the installation process in iTunes 2 for the Mac units running Mac OS X, Apple quickly released a newer version which is 2.0.1 to resolve the problem.

New and Improved Features for iTunes 2

To have a deeper understanding of why users needed to download iTunes 2, you should first have a quick glimpse at the features of the original iTunes. It is actually dubbed as the first-ever jukebox in digital mode – which made music-related applications and tasks a lot easier. With the first version of iTunes, users can easily rip MP3 files, store their music collection on their Mac units, create customized CD’s and a lot more.

Now, with the new iTunes 2, additional features like the ability to burn MP3 CD files are incorporated. Also, you can quickly choose your music library according to genre, artist or album. Another great feature for iTunes 2 is that when you get tired of hearing the songs on your music library, there are hundreds of Internet radio stations that you can tune in to. This feature is called the iTunes’ Radio Tuner.

System Requirements to Download iTunes 2

To take advantage of this newer and more improved version of iTunes, here are the system requirements. Your Apple system should have a built-in USB port. You should also have FireWire, and it you want to have audio CD burning capabilities, the system should support a CD-RW drive. If you have one which is built-in, it will automatically work with iTunes 2.

To better access iTunes 2, you can also install the iTunes Tool 2.0.2. This is a handy toolbar which will always be on top of your other application windows so that you can control the way that iTunes 2.0 plays your music library. Generally, the operating system which should be running in your computer is Mac OS X 10.1, 10.0 or you should have the Mac OS Classic installed.

As one online review indicated, the new iTunes 2 digital music software makes Apple live up to its name that you can rip, mix, and burn music using iTunes 2. There are now newer versions of iTunes but the iTunes 2 has paved the way towards the improvement of Apple’s outstanding digital music software.

By: Willhelm Williams

About the Author:
Parents can also restrict music with explicit language.

–> Cool iTunes Tips!

Dp you want to organize your iTunes in a better way? Putting an entire album into a playlist is not exactly the most effective way of organizing your songs, writes Christopher Breen. Here are the convenient ways that you can organize your tunes:

	Song Name

	Time

	Artist

	Album

	Genre

	My Rating

	Play Count

	Last Played

Christopher Breen also mentions the web site of Doug Adams (www.malcolmadams.com/itunes) which offers scripts (many are free and worth downloading) for corralling duplicate files in your iTunes Music Library, converting files from one audio format to another and locating album art on the Web that you can then paste into iTunes.

–> iTunes on your Cellular Phone

Want iTunes on your cell phone so you can carry around your mobile music library with you? These shortcuts are all gathered from Apple’s great website (www.apple.com).

For your convenient reference, these shortcuts are provided to you in table format.

iPhone 4.0 features leaked by Gizmodo

In case you have been out of the loop for the last few weeks, a developer working on the new Apple iPhone 4.0 accidentally left a prototype of the device at a bar in Redwood City Washington. After a unsuspecting bystander found the phone, he attempted to contact Apple before he sold it to Gizmodo for $5000. Once the tech blog got a hold of the device, they disassembled it and revealed what are likely to be a few of its new features. We have listed the most important ones below.

1.) Front facing video camera. You can expect the new iPhone to have a camera for video conferencing. Gizmodo’s editor made a point of mentioning the camera’s increased size. It will probably support 1080 by 720p HD video resolutions, an option that will excite those looking for a solid video camera in addition to their new phone.

2.) A better screen. When Gizmodo’s editor attempted to use the iPhone 4.0, he noticed that the iTunes loader icon had a much more crisp resolution than the icon on the current iPhone 3GS. Although nobody knows exactly what the new screen resolution will be, it’s a reasonable guess to assume it will be 960 by 640, similar to most of the rumors floating around.

3.) Bigger battery. The new battery for the iPhone 4.0 takes up 16% more of the space inside the chassis. Every other component in the device has been shrunk down to create more space for the battery. All of this makes sense as Apple moves to include more power consuming components such as the video camera and higher resolution screen.

From what we have seen, the new cell phone will be unlike any model we have seen from Apple so far.

With the development of digital technology, more and more digital products are used universally in our life. iPod becomes the best welcomed friend for more and more people all over the world. I have an iPod too and I usually make mistakes when I copy audio/video files between iPod and my PC. For example, I often do not find the files on my iPod or PC that I copied just now. I want to copy a song to/from my iPod but I do not know which one I should select and so on. What a terrible thing it is! Fortunately, I catch sight of a utility which can copy songs from iPod to PC easily on the Internet when I am surfing on-line. Some useful software can help us to do this.

The first software is iPod2PC, with iPod2PC we can easily copy/restore our songs, play lists, videos and podcasts from our iPod back to our iTunes music library or to any folder on our PC. It supports automatic import in iTunes, including our “My Rating”, “Play Count” and “Last Played” information from the iPod songs. iPod2PC offers very fast searching and a browse mode which makes finding songs on the iPod easy. With the sophisticated song selection method (via context menu), choosing desired groups of songs for copying is also very fast and easy. Just do a right click on any song in the song list to invoke the special context menu, which enables us to check/uncheck all or specific groups of songs for copying. The list of shown songs can be sorted ascending/descending by song name, artist, album and other properties by clicking on the header of a column. The program can be run directly from our iPod, so we can carry it with us wherever we go. The program lets us browse our songs by album, artist or genre, and also provide a search feature to locate specific items.

Another great product is iDump, iDump supports output templates and can automatically create folders based on the artist and song information. You can also search your iPod by keyword, create a playlist from the selected songs and set rules for unattended transfers. Standalone, can run from your iPod.

The third software is Sharepod, Sharepod is a small software that runs directly from your iPod and allows you to transfer your songs from your iPod to the PC it is currently connected to – without the need to have iTunes installed on the PC. You can also search through your content, play selected tracks and delete songs from the device. Sharepod also includes an option to copy files from your PC to your iPod, but this feature is no longer supported for newer iPods and should be used with caution or not at all.

By: Alans Smith

About the Author:

If you’re a digital music fan, you probably have problems organizing your music file collection. For me, I used to have hundreds of MP3 files lumped in one folder in my hard drive. Can you imagine the pain I had to go through to find one specific tune to listen to?

Organizing your music files is an important skill to learn. Once your collection is nicely sorted out, you’ll be able to find the songs you want quickly and easily. So set aside some time and read through the following tips I’ve come up with.

1. Create Subfolders

The single most important tip for organizing your music files is to create subfolders in your hard drive. Don’t ever leave your MP3 files in one huge folder called C:My Music. Create subfolders like C:My MusicClassical, C:My MusicPop and C:My MusicSoundtracks.

2. Ensure your ID3 Tags Are Correct

ID3 tags are used to store important information about MP3 files. Things like the song title, artist, album are kept and will be displayed by your MP3 player. Take the time to properly edit these tags – many MP3 files you download have the ID3 tag information all wrong. A good software program for editing ID3 tags is TagScanner.

3. Invest in Good Music Management Software

There are several excellent pieces of software out there for managing music files. Two good ones come to mind. The first is MediaMonkey and the second is MusicMatch Jukebox. Both programs offer excellent music management features like an integrated music player, CD burning features and ID3 tag renaming.

4. Get Your Music Files from Legal Sources

If you’ve been downloading music using P2P (peer-to-peer) file sharing programs like KaZaa, you will very likely get music files which have strange names like 56_HeyjAck.mp3. My advice: Get your files from legal sources like online music services iTunes or Napster and you will avoid this problem.

5. Create Good Playlists

Most software music player (e.g. Winamp) will allow you to create playlists. For example, say you’re in the mood for rock songs, you can point to your folder called C:MusicRock and create a playlist from that folder. Save the playlist after it is created. When you next feel like listening to those songs, all you need to do is load that playlist instead of trawling through your hard drive and folders.

6. Get A Huge Hard Drive

I know this sounds a little crazy – but running out of disk space can and will ruin your well-organized music collection. Make sure you have enough hard disk space to store your music files. Say you have 10,000 music files that you absolutely must retain and listen to. It is a very bad idea to store, say, 8,000 files in Hard Drive A and 2,000 files in Hard Drive B. Very messy. It’s better to store them all in one hard disk. So get your hands on the biggest hard drive you can find.

Conclusion

I hope this article helps you to organize your music collection a little better. I know it takes effort, but once your music collection is properly catalogued, listening to your music collection will be a much more pleasant experience. So don’t hesitate – get organized now!

By: Gary Hendricks

About the Author:
